WHAT IS MANTRAILING?

A nose-led adventure for dogs of all shapes, sizes and experience levels.

Mantrailing is the search for a specific person using their individual scent. Your dog is given a scent sample and follows the trail to find a person who is hiding. It's an enriching activity that lets dogs use their natural abilities while handlers learn to read their dog's body language and support the search.

At Dog Schkola, we focus on thoughtful, reward-based training, manageable challenges and the individual needs of each dog–human team.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

From the first sniff to the final find — here's how a typical mantrailing search unfolds.

1

GET THE SCENT

Your dog investigates a scent sample from the person they'll be looking for.

2

FOLLOW THE TRAIL

Working at their own pace, your dog follows the person's individual scent.

3

FIND YOUR PERSON

Celebrate the find together — and build confidence through a meaningful task.

TWO LEVELS OF MANTRAILING

Whether you're new to trailing or ready for more complex searches, we offer opportunities to progress together.

LEVEL 1 — GETTING STARTED

Learn the foundations of following a person's individual scent, handling the line and reading your dog's searching behaviour. Build a positive search routine at your dog's pace.

LEVEL 2 — DEVELOPING THE SEARCH

Build on established foundations with more complex trails, varied environments and growing independence. Exercises are adapted to each team's experience.
